Crazy Concoctions

In Mad Science, one of the stations was set up for the young scientists to create and "cook" their own recipe. There were two large pans (one with applesauce and vanilla pudding, one with sugar and water), mixing spoons, and a pitcher of water. The scientists were busy stirring, pouring water, and transferring the mixtures between pans. At some point, the teacher added a pan of Ooblek (cornstarch, water & liquid watercolor) to one of the pans. Will announced, "I am going to make apple pie! I am going to take it home and pop it in the oven!" With the help of his fellow scientists, he began to fill a water bottle full of the mixture. He sealed the lid and put it with his other things.

Upon arriving home Will shared his plan for making apple pie with Grandma. He suggested that we "pop it in the oven for 5 minutes at 65 points." Grandma offered to bake it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

"Apple Pie" fresh from the oven. It smelled like cinnamon and apples, resembled wet cement, and had a pudding like consistency.

Will asked me to cut it into slices. He put a bite to his lips and then promptly spit it out. "Blech! That is not apple pie!"
